Marcellin Desboutin (1823-1902) was a painter, printmaker and writer known for his psychologically insightful portraits in drypoint. Some forty portraits of leading writers, artists and thinkers of the 19th Century Paris are featured here, along with a short biography of this bon vivant.

This publication accompanies the exhibition Degas’s Drinker: Portraits by Marcellin Desboutin at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.
